Fortnite’s Outfit Restrictions: The Battle of Age Ratings

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here, ready to bring you some interesting news about Fortnite. So, listen up because this one’s a bit surprising.

Fortnite recently implemented age ratings for all the experiences within the game. But here’s the catch: some in-game outfits can no longer be used in experiences that are rated Everyone or Everyone 10 Plus. Yeah, it’s a bit of a bummer.

Let me give you an example. As I was writing this article, I decided to check out an E-rated experience themed around The Game Awards. Now, I was wearing one of the outfits from this season’s battle pass, thinking it would be totally fine. But when I entered the Fortnite lobby, I received a notice saying that my selected outfit couldn’t be worn in experiences with that age rating. Talk about a surprise!

I decided to investigate further and headed over to my locker, where you can swap outfits and gear. Lo and behold, there was a warning icon over one of my accessories – a cool metal cat/car/ball thing. Turns out, it couldn’t be used in experiences rated Everyone 10 Plus or lower. And when I finally loaded into the experience, the game completely removed the accessory from my character. Poof, gone!

Now, here’s the funny part. Epic’s blog post about this whole situation doesn’t really explain why certain outfits are deemed unsuitable for certain experiences. When I reached out for more details, their spokesperson Jake Jones simply directed me back to the blog post itself. Not very helpful, Jake!

However, there is some hope on the horizon. According to that same blog post, around 7 percent of outfits are only compatible with experiences rated Teen. But fear not! Epic plans to make changes over the next year so that “most” blocked outfits can be used in all experiences. How, you ask? By having them auto-adjust their appearance. Pretty cool, huh?

Now, let’s be realistic here. Not every cosmetic can be salvaged, especially if it requires a complete reimagining of the outfit. But Epic is working hard to address as many outfits as possible. They even gave an example of removing a gun attached to the leg of the Agent Peeley outfit. Quite the image, right?

But wait, there’s more! In addition to these age ratings shenanigans, Epic also added a new feature that lets you report voice conversations within the game. So if someone is being a total nuisance, you can now give them a piece of your mind. Just remember to keep it civil, folks.

And that’s it for today’s Fortnite news. Stay tuned for more updates from your favorite funny tech guy, Nuked!
