It looks like Tesla is facing some accusations from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). According to a complaint filed in September, the NLRB’s Tampa regional director claims that Tesla violated national labor laws by allegedly instructing employees at its Orlando, Florida location not to discuss pay and working conditions with others.

The complaint goes on to state that Tesla told employees not to complain to higher level managers about their pay or other conditions of employment and instructed them not to discuss the hiring, suspension, or termination of employees with others. These incidents reportedly occurred from December 2021 to January 2022, and are said to violate laws that prevent companies from “interfering with, restraining, and coercing employees in the exercise of rights guaranteed” by the NLRB Act. NLRB spokesperson Kayla Blado stated that a judge will hear the arguments laid out in the complaint during a February hearing.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the NLRB has filed complaints against Tesla. In August, the agency ruled that Tesla’s dress code policy was unlawful for banning clothing with union logos. The NLRB also forced CEO Elon Musk to delete an anti-union tweet in 2021 (which remains online while Tesla appeals the decision) and ruled that the firing of union activist Richard Ortiz was illegal. Additionally, two California-based Tesla employees filed complaints with the NLRB earlier this month over claims that the company illegally fired them for criticizing Musk.
