Brace yourselves, because it seems like Lenovo is ready to give Valve’s Steam Deck a run for its money with their very own handheld gaming PC. Now, based on these leaked images, it looks like Lenovo’s take on a PC gaming handheld is taking inspiration from both the Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally. But here’s where things get interesting – it also seems to have some similarities with the beloved Nintendo Switch. The Legion Go boasts an eight-inch screen and features two Joy-Con-like controllers that can be detached. And get this, it even has a kickstand reminiscent of the Switch OLED that you can pop out for tabletop gaming!
Lenovo has taken an interesting approach with the design of the Legion Go’s controllers. They seem to be a fusion of the Switch’s flat but removable Joy-Cons and the Steam Deck’s contoured but attached grips. But that’s not all – while the Steam Deck has touch pads on both sides of the controller, the Legion Go appears to have just one touch pad on the right controller. Oh, and did I mention that the back of that right controller apparently has a wheel? Talk about innovation!
One thing that immediately stands out about the Legion Go is its thickness. Unlike Asus, who went for a slimmer design with the ROG Ally (which unfortunately resulted in mediocre battery life), Lenovo isn’t holding back. They seem to be prioritizing a beefier battery, which is definitely something we can appreciate. After all, who wants to constantly worry about running out of juice in the middle of an intense gaming session?
According to reports, the Legion Go will run on Windows 11, which means you’ll have access to a wide range of Windows games that support the device’s specifications. It’s also rumored to be powered by AMD Phoenix processors, which have been making waves in the handheld gaming world. Now, we’re still waiting for an official comment from Lenovo, but if these leaked images are anything to go by, it seems like they’re taking the Legion Go very seriously.
Lenovo has dabbled in the world of handheld gaming before, showcasing the “LaVie Mini” concept in collaboration with NEC at CES 2021 and even working on an Android-based device called the Legion Play.
