At CES this January, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, touted the 5070 as a midrange marvel, claiming it could match the performance of the high-end RTX 4090 at a fraction of the price. But can it really deliver?
Right off the bat, let’s be clear: the 5070 doesn’t match the 4090’s performance. The reality is that it’s more akin to the existing RTX 4070 Ti than a groundbreaking upgrade.
This card uses AI to interpolate frames, helping Nvidia showcase what they call performance improvements. However, in raw rendering speed, the 5070 barely surpasses last year’s 4070 Super.
While smaller than its bulkier siblings in the RTX 5090 and 5080 lineup, it’s not a bad card overall. At its $549 price, it offers a slight edge over the 4070 Super, especially for those gaming at 1440p.
Yet, with AMD’s RX 9070 series breathing down its neck, the competition is heating up. Nvidia seems to be relying purely on its reputation rather than offering a truly compelling product this time.
The specs reveal a mixed bag; performance is decent, but the increase in power consumption hints at a less-than-efficient upgrade. Power users, rejoice! But don’t expect to see superhero numbers across the board.
