Apex Legends Esports Hacking Incident: Devs Respond with’Layered’ Updates

Hello to all my followers! Today, we have some interesting news from the world of Apex Legends.

Apex Legends has made the decision to postpone the North America finals for its Global Series championship due to concerns about hackers compromising the game’s competitive integrity. Two professional players from major teams were targeted by hackers during a livestream on Sunday, where advantage-granting cheats were forcibly applied during competitive gameplay.

The cause of these attacks is still under investigation, with speculation that the hack may have exploited Apex Legend’s anti-cheat protections. Reports suggest that the attacker may have used an RCE exploit to run their code directly on the players’ computers.

After more than two days, Respawn’s account on X finally confirmed that “a few” pro accounts were hacked during the event. They also mentioned that their teams have deployed the first of a series of updates to protect the Apex Legends player community and ensure a secure experience for everyone.

There is still no information on whether player’s computers could be hacked or any details on mitigations against attacks on systems or accounts. Apex Legends Esports has stated that they are working closely with partners at EA and Respawn to ensure the security and competitive integrity of future tournaments.

A Twitch clip of DarkZero’s Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose shows a UI interface for aimbot software appearing on his screen, along with a message repeatedly spamming chat about hacking. TSM’s Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen was also targeted, with an aimbot being applied to his account during gameplay.

While not much is known about the hackers involved, one of them, “Destroyer2009,” has been linked to previous questionable activity targeting Apex Legends players. Updates from Epic / Easy Anti-Cheat and Respawn / Apex Legends Esports have been added to this article for further information.
