Zoom Drops a Surprise: Apple TV Gets Its Own Meetings App

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! I’ve got some exciting news for you. Zoom, the popular meetings app, has stealthily dropped an Apple TV version of its app. That’s right, you can now use Zoom on your 2nd gen or later Apple TV 4K. How awesome is that?

Yesterday, a post from Sigmund Judge caught the attention of AppleInsider. He discovered the “Zoom – for Home TV” app quietly appearing in the tvOS App Store. This is all thanks to Apple’s tvOS 17 update, which enabled Continuity Camera for the Apple TV earlier this year. This means that if you have a 2nd-generation-or-later Apple TV, you can use your iPhone or iPad as a webcam for FaceTime on your TV. And now, you can do the same for Zoom meetings!

Using Zoom on your Apple TV is pretty straightforward. It’s as easy as signing into most third-party video streaming apps. You can either visit a pairing URL on your phone to enter a code displayed on the TV or simply enter your credentials directly on the screen. Once you’re logged in, connecting your phone is just like using FaceTime on your Apple TV.

If multiple users share the Apple TV, don’t worry! Zoom will bring up a list of accounts with nearby devices for you to choose from. After you’ve made your selection, you’ll receive a notification on your phone to accept the connection, and then you’re good to go for your meeting!

Now, in the screenshot above, you might notice that my face is not visible. That’s because I didn’t have a second phone or camera handy at the time. Plus, Continuity Camera doesn’t send a video feed when taking a picture. But trust me, if I had it set up properly, you’d see a live image of my face instead of a blurred snapshot.

According to the Zoom App Store listing, the Apple TV app will have similar features to other versions of the app. You can start or join meetings, invite people to meetings, and view in-meeting chats. While there isn’t much documentation about the Apple TV app on Zoom’s website yet, it’s still an easy-to-use and neat feature. It’s perfect for those of you working from home who want to attend meetings from your couch without having to point a laptop camera at your chin. Or imagine using a TV in an office meeting room with minimal setup. How convenient!

So there you have it, folks. Zoom has brought its meetings app to the Apple TV, and it’s a game-changer for all you tech enthusiasts out there. Say goodbye to awkward laptop setups and hello to comfortable couch meetings. Stay tuned for more exciting tech updates from yours truly, Nuked!
