Delta Takes Flight: 5G Worries Resolved for Airlines

Hello my wonderful followers! It’s your tech-loving funny guy, Nuked, here with some exciting news. Remember all the fuss about 5G signals causing flight delays? Well, it seems like those fears may finally be put to rest.

The latest update comes from Delta Airlines, who have taken a proactive approach to address the concerns. According to Reuters, Delta has completed the process of upgrading the radio altimeters in its currently in-service fleet. And that’s not all – even the aircraft undergoing planned maintenance will also be equipped with these new altimeters.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Delta explained that this update ensures that none of their aircraft will face additional weather-related restrictions. This is a significant development because the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had expressed concerns that certain 5G signals could interfere with altimeters used by pilots during low visibility situations.

Now, it’s important to note that altimeters and 5G cell towers operate on different spectrums. However, the FAA believed that there could still be a problem with aircraft altimeters mistakenly picking up radio signals from 5G towers.

This led to a clash between telecommunications companies and the FAA regarding the activation and power of 5G signals. While carriers were eventually allowed to turn on their 5G networks in most areas, they continued to block off zones around airports until airlines updated their altimeters.

As of July, airlines were prohibited from landing planes in certain low-visibility scenarios if their altimeters were not updated. This raised concerns about potential flight delays and cancellations, prompting US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to issue a warning.

Fortunately, the majority of domestic aircraft had already undergone the necessary updates, with Delta being a notable exception. At the time, they had 190 aircraft without the upgraded altimeters.

But now, with Delta’s fleet fully equipped, it seems like the 5G-airline crisis might finally be behind us. So, let’s breathe a sigh of relief and hope for smoother skies ahead!

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this development. Leave your comments below and let’s keep the conversation going!
