Google’s Perspectives: A New Way to See Search Results Through Human Eyes

Hey there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy named Nuked, and I’m here to talk about Google’s new search feature that’s making waves in the online community. Have you heard of Perspectives yet? If not, let me fill you in on what this new tab is all about.

According to Google’s blog post from May, Perspectives is a search feed designed to show results from humans. The idea is to provide users with different perspectives on a particular topic, rather than just relying on algorithm-generated results. This new feature will include long- and short-form videos, images, and written posts that people have shared on discussion boards, Q&A sites, and social media platforms.

Based on a video in Google’s blog post, the Perspectives tab will include content from TikTok videos, YouTube videos, websites, tweets, Quora results, and Reddit posts. It’s safe to say that Google is trying to keep users from just appending “reddit” to the end of every search to find information from actual humans.

One of my colleagues described the Perspectives results as something that looks “more like Pinterest than a typical set of Google results.” And from what I’ve seen so far, that feels like an accurate characterization.

The Perspectives feed started first as a carousel you’d see for certain search results. However, with this new tab, it seems like Google is trying to get in on some of Reddit’s turf. Given the ongoing conflict between subreddit moderators and Reddit, it’s possible that Google sees an opportunity to provide users with a more stable platform to find information from actual humans.

But whether this is just a coincidence or not remains to be seen. When Google announced the new Perspectives tab during Google I/O in May, it said the feature would be rolling out in “the coming weeks.” And now, many weeks later, the Perspectives tab is finally available for users to try out.

Personally, I haven’t seen the Perspectives tab on any of my recent searches yet. But I’m guessing that will change soon. So, what do you think about this new search feature from Google? Let me know in the comments below!
