As you may know, the streaming giant has been working on a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for some time now. And while we haven’t seen much about it until now, Netflix has just released a very brief teaser trailer that confirms the series will start streaming in 2024.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “2024? That’s so far away!” And yes, it is. But let’s not forget that this show has been through some issues, including the departure of its creators over creative differences. So, perhaps Netflix is just playing it safe and taking its time to make sure this adaptation lives up to the beloved animated series.
In any case, at least we got our first glimpse of the cast in character! The teaser trailer shows Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko in all their live-action glory. And while it’s not much to go on, it’s still exciting to see these characters come to life in a new way.
Of course, Netflix’s track record with live-action adaptations of anime hasn’t been great so far. We all remember the disaster that was the Death Note movie. And while I’m cautiously optimistic about Avatar: The Last Airbender, I can’t help but worry about how it will turn out.
But let’s not focus on the negative. After all, there are other live-action adaptations of anime in Netflix’s future lineup, including One Piece and My Hero Academia. And who knows? Maybe they’ll get it right this time. We’ll just have to wait and see.
