Stream Smarter: Apple TVs to Get Native VPN Support in tvOS 17

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! I’ve got some exciting news to share with you today. According to a recent Apple press release (via 9to5Mac), Apple TVs will soon have native VPN app support in tvOS 17. This is a feature that didn’t make it into the keynote at WWDC 2023, but it could be a big deal for some people.

With native VPN apps on the Apple TV, you won’t have to wait until you get home to catch up on your favorite streaming shows. Currently, to use a VPN with your Apple TV, you need to install a VPN on your router, which not all routers support. This is one of the rare advantages that Google’s Chromecast or Amazon’s Fire TV devices have over the Apple TV.

We reached out to a few VPN services like NordVPN and Express VPN to find out if they have any plans to develop native apps for the Apple TV. We’ll keep you updated on their responses.

Native VPN support already exists on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so adding this feature to the Apple TV is great news. It could mean more than just being able to stream shows that aren’t available in your country. VPNs on other devices can potentially allow you to use apps that are banned at your university or even download apps that are banned in certain states.

Other new features in tvOS 17 include enhanced dialogue that separates dialogue from background noise and routes it through your center channel, Dolby Vision 8.1 support, and updates to Apple Fitness+. These updates will add custom workout and meditation plans that you can schedule based on your preferences and even stacked workouts, which is essentially a workout playlist option.

So, there you have it! Keep an eye out for tvOS 17 and all of its new features, including native VPN support on the Apple TV. I can’t wait to see what other exciting tech news is in store for us in the future!
