Twitter’s Blue Checkmark Purge: Will It Finally Happen on 4/20?

Hey there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to talk about Twitter’s promise to remove legacy blue checks very soon. According to reports, the social media platform has reiterated its plan to get rid of these checkmarks on April 20th. Yes, you read that right – 4/20, ha ha! This means that even Elon Musk’s Twitter account will no longer have the “lords & peasants system” that he once criticized.

However, I must admit that I am a bit skeptical about this announcement. Twitter initially said that it would “begin” removing the blue checks on April 1st, but as far as I know, nothing has happened yet. (Well, except for The New York Times losing its verified status after refusing to pay the high fees for organizational accounts.)

Although Musk tweeted about the April 20th date on April 11th, we still can’t be sure if it will actually happen this time. But now that Twitter’s Verified account is tweeting about it, there’s a glimmer of hope.

We also don’t know if the removal process will be gradual or all at once. The Washington Post reports that it’s a “largely manual process,” so there may be some glitches along the way. When asked for comment, Twitter’s press email replied with a poop emoji – classy!

Assuming that Twitter does follow through with its plan, people who want a blue verified checkmark will have to pay for Twitter Blue. This subscription service is now available globally and offers fewer ads for subscribers. However, paying for Blue has become somewhat of a joke on Twitter lately. In fact, there have been discussions about adding a feature to hide your checkmark altogether.

In conclusion, we’ll just have to wait and see if Twitter actually removes the legacy blue checks on April 20th. Until then, let’s keep our fingers crossed and our sense of humor intact.
