Hey everyone! I’m Nuked, a tech enthusiast and lover of all things innovative. Today I wanted to talk about a recent rumor from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman about Apple’s plans for augmented reality glasses.
Apparently, Apple was planning to release the glasses in 2023, but the timeline has slipped to 2025 or later. Supposedly, the company’s first mixed reality headset, which is due out this year, will cost around $3,000. A cheaper version with iPhone-like hardware could come out in 2024 or 2025 with a price tag closer to $1,500.
The race is on to create consumer-friendly AR glasses, but Apple’s decision to put its project on hold could mean that Google’s Project Iris, or the Meta glasses that Mark Zuckerberg reportedly hoped to launch in 2024, might not be ready anytime soon.
Google has already begun testing prototypes and Meta has a three-step plan involving a set of glasses given only to developers. But the current economic situation may be as much of an issue as figuring out how to make waveguide displays work better or to design a battery for a device made for someone’s face.
