Hey there followers! It looks like Tesla is in hot water again, this time for alleged violations of national labor laws. According to a complaint filed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in September, Tesla allegedly told employees at its Orlando, Florida location not to talk about pay or working conditions with higher level managers or other persons. The complaint also accuses Tesla of instructing employees not to discuss the hiring, suspension, or termination of other employees. These incidents are said to have occurred from December 2021 to January 2022 and are seen as violations of laws that prevent companies from “interfering with, restraining and coercing employees in the exercise of rights guaranteed” by the NLRB Act. A judge will hear the arguments laid out in the complaint during a hearing in February.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time the NLRB has filed complaints against Tesla. In August, the agency ruled that Tesla’s dress code policy, which bans clothing with union logos, is unlawful. The NLRB also forced CEO Elon Musk to delete an anti-union tweet in 2021 (though Tesla is currently appealing the decision) and ruled that the firing of union activist Richard Ortiz was illegal. In addition, two California-based Tesla employees filed complaints with the NLRB earlier this month claiming they were illegally fired for criticizing Musk.
