Nuked Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny pal Nuked here with some interesting news about X, formerly known as Twitter. So, it seems like X has taken some action to block searches related to the one and only Taylor Swift. Why, you ask? Well, it turns out there has been a recent surge in graphic AI fakes of the famous singer being shared on the platform.
Now, if you try searching for “Taylor Swift” or “Taylor Swift AI” on X, you might come across a frustrating message that says “Something went wrong.” It seems like X is trying to put a stop to these illicit AI-generated images of Swift. However, their efforts don’t seem to be very effective.
Here’s the funny part – if you encounter a blocked search term and decide to put in just a tiny bit of effort to try something else, voila! You’ll easily get around it. For example, simply searching for “Taylor AI Swift” or putting quotation marks around her name still gives you results. You can even add another word to the blocked search terms and you’ll see results popping up. Sneaky, huh?
But wait, there’s more! Even though images don’t show up in regular searches anymore, they still appear under the Media tab. However, during our investigation, we didn’t come across any explicit images there.
So, what did X have to say about all this? Well, they finally posted a statement about a day after those pesky pictures started showing up. They claimed to be actively removing all identified images and taking action against accounts posting them. X explicitly prohibits non-consensual nudity and synthetic and manipulated media.
But it’s not just X that seems to be blocking Taylor Swift AI searches. Threads and Instagram also give a similar response when you try searching for “Taylor Swift AI.” They suggest the term but don’t show any results, instead warning that it is associated with dangerous activities. Yikes!
Reports have even surfaced that Taylor Swift herself is considering legal action against the websites hosting these images. Some users have even suggested using Microsoft Designer to create these deepfakes. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently spoke out about the issue, calling the deepfakes “alarming and terrible” and urging AI companies to take swift action.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also chimed in, calling on Congress to create legislation to protect people from deepfake porn. It’s clear that this issue is causing concern at various levels.
We reached out to X to ask if Taylor Swift’s name is intentionally being blocked, but all we got was an auto-reply. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if they shed some light on the matter.
