Recently, Reddit experienced some major outages that lasted for about an hour. During this time, I found myself unable to load any Reddit pages on my browsers while logged into the site. Instead, I was greeted with error messages or even a blank white screen. However, when I tried accessing the site while logged out, everything loaded just fine. But fear not, my friends, as I write this article, I’m happy to report that I’m currently browsing Reddit without any troubles.
But it wasn’t just me facing these issues. Several of my colleagues here at The Verge also had trouble loading pages, and Downdetector showed a whopping peak of nearly 30,000 user reports. It seems like Reddit was experiencing quite the hiccup!
Luckily, Reddit swiftly took action and resolved the incident. They even posted a message on their status site at 6:15 PM ET to inform us about the successful resolution. The outages affected desktop web, mobile web, and the company’s native mobile apps. It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time Reddit has faced technical difficulties in recent weeks.
In June, the platform faced crashes due to numerous subreddits going dark in protest against the company’s API pricing. And just last month in July, Reddit’s search function was a little wonky for a few hours. It seems like technology always keeps us on our toes!
