Hey everyone! I’m Nuked and I’m here to talk to you about the latest updates to Snapchat. The popular app is adding some new tools that make it even easier to create content with trending songs or sounds.
First up, Snapchat is introducing a sound recommendation system for its Lenses. This means that you’ll be able to find out what sounds other people are using with the lens they’ve applied and add them to your own photos or videos. This feature is now available in the US and will be rolling out worldwide soon.
Snapchat is also adding a feature that automatically syncs your uploaded photos and videos to the beat of songs when you’re creating a montage. You can add anywhere from four to 20 photos and videos to your montage, which could be really helpful when making content based on trending audio or challenges.
Since last fall, Snapchat has been gradually adding more tools as it competes with TikTok’s shortform product, Spotlight. They even offered huge cash payouts to people creating popular videos at the time, though that money has been cut several times in the last year.
Snapchat is leaning heavily into the AR filters that have become so popular across social media platforms like TikTok. In December, they announced new ways for lens creators to make money through digital products that users can purchase in the app.
The company reports that 250 million of its users engage with AR daily and that nearly two-thirds of user submissions to Spotlight use their editing tools or AR filters. It looks like Snapchat is hoping that AR could be a meaningful source of revenue and they plan on announcing more AR shopping efforts for brands in the coming months.
