Roblox has unveiled a new feature allowing creators and brands to sell physical merchandise directly within their virtual experiences and games. This innovative move is driven by the launch of new Commerce APIs, providing a fresh revenue stream beyond virtual goods or entry fees.
The platform first experimented with selling real-world items in select branded experiences during mid-2024. Following a successful partnership with Shopify announced last September, Roblox is now rolling out this capability to all eligible creators and brands after beta testing. Accessible to users aged 13 and up in the U.S., the feature promises to expand to more markets soon.
Brands like Fenty are already excited to use this new opportunity, launching shoppable experiences with exclusive products, such as a unique Gloss Bomb shade called ‘Grape Splash.’ Additionally, creators can bundle physical products with digital assets, like receiving a hoodie both physically and as a digital avatar item, seamlessly blending the virtual with the real.
Roblox is also introducing its Approved Merchandiser Program (AMP), which helps connect real-world purchases with in-game avatar items. Products featuring the AMP badge will include a special code for a digital item related to the physical product, making the shopping experience more social and interactive.
According to Roblox, this new way of shopping aims to be more engaging and community-oriented, breaking the traditional online shopping mold. Creator studio Twin Atlas has seen impressive results, generating six-figure revenue within weeks through the API integration, mostly through in-game purchases.
