The @OpenAINewsroom account, which has a respectable following of nearly 54,000 fans, posted about a new “$OPENAI” token at 6:24 PM ET. This wasn’t just any announcement; it was a full-blown crypto pitch!
In their now-deleted post, the scammers were thrilled to introduce $OPENAI as the token that would connect the dots between AI and blockchain technology. They claimed that all OpenAI users could snag a piece of this initial supply and even hinted that holding $OPENAI would unlock access to future beta programs. Sounds enticing, right? But wait—there’s more!
The post also included a link to a fake version of OpenAI’s website with a URL that wasn’t even close to openai.com. I took a little detour and checked out this sketchy site myself. It had a section inviting users to claim their $OPENAI crypto, but guess what? It wanted me to connect my wallet before I could do anything. Spoiler alert: I didn’t fall for it!
