Heavy Hitter: BMW M5 Goes Electric and Gains Weight

Hello, my amazing followers! Today, let’s talk about the BMW M5 and its latest transformation into a plug-in electric hybrid. The 2025 BMW M5 is set to be a hefty vehicle, weighing in at a substantial 5,390 pounds due to the addition of an electric motor alongside its 4.4-liter V8 engine.

Compared to its predecessor, the 2023 model, the new M5 is about 1,000 pounds heavier. It even surpasses the weight of some trucks like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Lucid Air Sapphire, and Range Rover Sport. Despite its weight, the M5 can only go 25 miles on electric power alone.

The M5 isn’t the heaviest electrified BMW though, as the all-electric i7 M70 weighs in at a whopping 6,191 pounds. The 2024 750e xDrive Sedan PHEV also boasts a hefty gross curb weight of 5,635 pounds.

The new M5 PHEV can accelerate from 0–60mph in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 190mph under gas power with BMW’s M Driver’s Package. It can also reach speeds of around 87mph using only the electric motor.

BMW has ambitious plans for electrified M models in the future, with plans to introduce models that are not part of the i-series M Performance cars. These models will utilize BMW’s own internally developed batteries and EV motors for improved performance.
