Hey there, my lovely followers! Today I have some interesting news to share with you. TikTok is currently testing AI-generated search results on their platform. This new feature, called “search highlights,” showcases snippets of AI results at the top of certain search result pages.
In my quick tests, I was able to find AI-generated results for queries ranging from recipes to topics like “best laptops 2024.” Clicking on these results takes you to a full-screen page where the content is generated using ChatGPT. TikTok displays this content when the algorithm deems it relevant to your search.
While not all queries have AI answers yet, TikTok is calling this feature “AI Smart Search.” Additionally, there is a similar feature called “search highlights” that appears at the top of search results but is not labeled as AI-generated. It’s unclear where this information is sourced from, whether it summarizes videos or pulls from elsewhere.
TikTok has been steadily enhancing its in-app search functionality by adding features like Google Search results and links to websites like Wikipedia and IMDb directly within the app’s search results page. The platform seems to be catering to the habits of its users, especially younger demographics, who often use TikTok as a search engine for recommendations instead of traditional platforms like Google.
