Eight major U.S. and Indian venture capital and private equity firms, including well-known names like Accel and Premji Invest, have teamed up to create a financial coalition focused on India’s deep tech scene. They plan to commit over $1 billion in the next decade to support Indian startups specializing in advanced technologies. This move tackles the long-standing issue of funding shortages that many Indian deep tech entrepreneurs face.

The alliance responds to recent criticisms from Indian officials about domestic startups’ innovation focus. Instead of just delivery apps, these investors aim to back companies working on cutting-edge fields like AI, semiconductors, space, and biotech—especially those incorporated in India, thanks to new government incentives. The group will provide funding, mentorship, and networking to boost local startups and help them expand into the Indian market.

The formation of this alliance is quite unique. Usually, investors compete individually for deals, but here they are pledging collective support. Called the India Deep Tech Investment Alliance, its members include Celesta Capital, Gaja Capital, and others. The coalition is aligned with the Indian government’s RDI scheme, which has approved a huge fund to encourage innovation and research in key areas. Each member will invest over 5 to 10 years, focusing on early-stage companies from seed to Series B, to foster a vibrant, sustainable deep tech ecosystem in India.
