Google has introduced a new feature called ‘Preferred Sources’ available in the U.S. and India. This nifty tool allows users to handpick their favorite news sites and blogs to appear prominently in the Top Stories section of search results. When enabled, you’ll see a star icon next to Top Stories, and tapping it lets you search for and add your preferred sources.

After selecting your sources, you can refresh your search results to see more content from these chosen sites. For some queries, there will also be a ‘From your sources’ section below the main Top Stories, giving you quick access to your curated content.

While this feature helps you focus on sources you trust or like, it might also limit your exposure to differing viewpoints, potentially creating an echo chamber. Google initially tested this as an opt-in experimental feature through Search Labs, and during that phase, many users chose multiple sources.

Now, it’s generally available for English searches in the U.S. and India. Google encourages feedback through a survey so users can help shape future updates. This move clearly aims to personalize search, but remember, it’s a balance between customization and staying open to diverse perspectives.
