Hey folks, Nuked here! Today, let’s dive into some exciting tech news about Ghost, the popular newsletter platform. After months of beta testing, Ghost has rolled out a new version, Ghost 6, and it’s packed with cool features!
Ghost 6 introduces native support for sharing long-form content over the open social web. This means that besides posting newsletters online, through RSS, or emailing subscribers, Ghost’s users can now connect directly with decentralized social platforms like Mastodon, Threads, Flipboard, WordPress with ActivityPub, Surf, and WriteFreely.
The highlight of this update is ActivityPub support, an open standard powering many decentralized social networks. While Ghost also mentions integration with Bluesky, this is enabled via Bridgy Fed, a service that links the fediverse to more modern protocols like the AT Protocol used by Bluesky. Interestingly, Ghost now allows publishers to interact with federated apps by liking, replying, or reposting, expanding their reach beyond traditional channels.
According to Manton Reece, Ghost is bridging to the fediverse with this release, differing from Micro.blog, which is working on direct AT Protocol integrations. Ghost’s approach supports broader compatibility and potential network effects by enabling federation across various social platforms.
Beyond social sharing, Ghost 6 includes a new analytics suite to monitor performance across websites, newsletters, and subscriptions. The update also adds support for payment options, tips, donations, branded newsletters, and personalized content. The pricing for Ghost’s Pro plans has been slightly increased, starting at $15 and $29 per month, with discounts for larger publishers.
All these improvements aim to give publishers more tools to grow their audience and engage in the decentralized social web, ultimately broadening their presence online in an open, interoperable environment.
