Anthropic has announced fresh weekly restrictions on its AI tool, Claude, targeting users who keep it running nonstop in the background. These new limits are set to start on August 28 and mainly aim to curb misuse like account sharing and reselling.
Despite the restrictions, most users won’t notice a disruption, as the limits impact less than 5% of subscribers. The limits will include both overall usage caps and more specific ones for the advanced Claude Opus 4 model.
Existing five-hour reset limits stay, but the new weekly caps give users a broader window—seven days—to use the service. Certain users can buy additional usage at standard rates if they need more.
Interestingly, Anthropic’s Claude Code tool has faced outages, possibly because some users run it constantly. The company’s resources are limited, and data centers are still catching up with AI demands.
Other AI firms are also tweaking their pricing strategies, like Cursor and Replit, to prevent abuse. Despite these challenges, AI development continues at a feverish pace, aiming to serve more developers and users.
