Tesla Cybertruck Sales Drop While GMC Hummer EV Surpasses It

Picture

Hey folks, Nuked here! Today we’re diving into how Tesla’s Cybertruck sales are faltering while GMC’s Hummer EV is stepping up to the plate. Buckle up for some juicy details!

Recent data reveals that Tesla’s once-anticipated Cybertruck has seen a dramatic decline in sales. In the second quarter, Tesla managed to sell only 4,306 units, slightly fewer than the 4,508 GMC Hummer EVs sold during the same period. Interestingly, Ford’s F-150 Lightning continues to lead the electric truck market with 5,842 units sold, although even those numbers are lower than usual, marking over a year’s low for Ford.

The tally for GMC’s Hummer includes both the pickup and SUV versions, which are quite similar in appearance—so much so that the SUV still resembles a truck more than a typical SUV. Rivian, another competitor, also struggled with their R1T, selling just 1,752 last quarter, down from 3,309 a year earlier.

What’s truly surprising is Tesla’s dramatic drop after initial high sales from late 2023 and early 2024, reaching nearly 17,000 units in Q3 2024 before falling again. Analysts suggest factors like Elon Musk’s controversial involvement with the Trump administration or the high price point—initially promised at $40,000—may have impacted consumer interest.

Musk had previously predicted Tesla would produce around 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, yet current production has a large backlog, and the factory in Texas remains underutilized. As Musk once remarked, “we dug our own grave with Cybertruck,” highlighting some of the ongoing challenges.

All in all, the EV truck market is witnessing shifts, with traditional brands like Ford and GMC gaining ground while Tesla faces hurdles, possibly due to brand perception and pricing issues. Stay tuned for more EV market twists and turns!
