After many delays and shifting plans, the electric car giant opened its first “Experience Center” in Mumbai’s bustling Maker Maxity Mall, marking its official entry into one of the world’s largest auto markets.

Tesla’s new showroom isn’t just a retail outlet—it’s a 4,000-square-foot hub showcasing the Model Y in two versions: rear-wheel drive (RWD) and long-range RWD, imported directly from Shanghai. The pricing for the Model Y RWD is around ₹59.89 lakh, with the long-range version costing about ₹67.89 lakh. Plus, buyers can opt for a full self-driving upgrade at approximately ₹6 lakh.

Customers in India can now place orders for the Model Y, with deliveries expected to start in the coming months—Q3 for the RWD and Q4 for the long-range model. Tesla is also setting up infrastructure in Mumbai and Delhi, including Supercharger stations, to support these new vehicles. A second store in Delhi is on the way, and imports from Berlin are planned once trade agreements are sorted.

India, being the fourth-largest car producer globally with about 6 million vehicles annually, has a surprisingly small electric vehicle market—mostly two-wheelers. The country’s goal is to reach 30% electric vehicle sales by 2030, making Tesla’s entry a significant step forward in the EV push.
