Hey followers! Today we dive into a shocking security slip-up involving AI and fast food giant McDonald’s.
Security researchers discovered that they could access the personal data of 64 million job applicants at McDonald’s just by logging into their AI-driven hiring chatbot with the simple password “123456.” This chatbot, called McHire, was provided by Paradox.ai, which quickly fixed the issues after the vulnerability was reported.
The researchers, Ian Carroll and Sam Curry, identified not only the weak password but also another security flaw in the system’s API. This flaw allowed access to previous conversations with the chatbot, revealing sensitive details such as names, email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers of applicants.
Paradox.ai assured that they resolved these problems within hours and confirmed that no candidate data was leaked online during the incident. The findings were initially reported by Wired and highlight how even AI tools can be vulnerable to simple security oversights.
