Meta’s Renewable Power Boost: Over 1 GW of Clean Energy for Data Centers

Picture

Hello, tech lovers! Today we’re diving into how Meta is going green, power-wise. It’s like they’re building a renewable energy empire for their data centers—talk about eco-friendly tech moves!

Meta recently ramped up its renewable energy portfolio by striking several major deals, adding more than a gigawatt of clean power capacity. They’ve announced plans to buy 791 MW of solar and wind energy from Invenergy in several states, with projects expected to energize in 2027 and 2028. That’s a lot of green electrons coming their way!

But wait, there’s more! Just the day before, Meta committed to purchasing the environmental attributes of 360 MW from two solar farms operated by Adapture Renewables in Texas. Their renewable adventures don’t stop there—they’ve also inked a deal last month for 650 MW of solar power from AES and teamed up with XGS Energy to develop a 150 MW geothermal plant in New Mexico. Now, that’s a power plan with a punch!

All these efforts are happening amid discussions about subsidies being cut for renewables, making Meta’s investments even more impressive. Solar power, in particular, is the fastest route for data centers to gain new clean energy, with projects completing in around 18 months—phased builds even speed things up.

Meta’s ongoing renewable buying spree shows a clear commitment to sustainability, enhancing their green image while powering their tech ingenuity. Now, isn’t that a bright idea?
