In response, Tesla submitted three more specific trademark applications for ‘Tesla Robotaxi’—covering the autonomous service, its mobile app, and vehicles—to set the stage for testing in Austin, Texas, later this month.

Most legal experts agree that these applications will take months to be reviewed, so Tesla’s timing for a launch might be tight. Interestingly, Tesla is also pursuing trademarks for other vehicle concepts like ‘Robobus,’ ‘Robus,’ and ‘Cyberbus,’ which relate to their self-driving van-like vehicles. However, some terms like ‘Robovan’ are already claimed by other companies, including Starship from Estonia.
