Hello followers! Today, let’s dive into Tesla’s latest moves in the self-driving vehicle world with a bit of fun and tech talk.
Tesla has officially applied for trademarks on the term ‘Tesla Robotaxi,’ aiming to push forward with its planned autonomous ride-hailing service. This comes after previous efforts to trademark ‘Robotaxi’ and ‘Cybercab’ faced hurdles from the USPTO, which requested more details due to the common use of those terms by other companies like Waymo.
Initially, Tesla sought to trademark the words ‘Robotaxi’ and ‘Cybercab’ in October 2024. But the USPTO halted ‘Cybercab’ applications because of overlapping claims with other firms under the ‘Cyber’ umbrella. In response, Tesla submitted three more specific trademark applications for ‘Tesla Robotaxi’—covering the autonomous service, its mobile app, and vehicles—to set the stage for testing in Austin, Texas, later this month.
Most legal experts agree that these applications will take months to be reviewed, so Tesla’s timing for a launch might be tight. Interestingly, Tesla is also pursuing trademarks for other vehicle concepts like ‘Robobus,’ ‘Robus,’ and ‘Cyberbus,’ which relate to their self-driving van-like vehicles. However, some terms like ‘Robovan’ are already claimed by other companies, including Starship from Estonia.
Despite the trademark hurdles, Tesla’s ambitions for autonomous vehicles remain high, with ongoing testing and development. Elon Musk’s team is eager to secure the rights needed to brand their innovative projects, although precise timelines are always a game of waiting and patience.
Stay tuned for more updates on Tesla’s robotic revolution—it’s going to be an exciting ride!
