Hey there, tech lovers! Today, we’re diving into some exciting news about NVIDIA and AMD, two giants of the semiconductor world, and their plans to bring new AI chips to China. Buckle up!
Due to the US export restrictions on advanced semiconductor technology, NVIDIA and AMD are preparing to launch new GPUs tailored for AI workloads specifically in China. Sources from the supply chain reveal that NVIDIA will introduce a simplified AI GPU called “B20,” while AMD targets the AI market with its Radeon AI PRO R9700 workstation GPU. These chips are expected to hit the shelves in China around July.
Earlier this week, reports indicated that NVIDIA is also developing a more budget-friendly AI chip based on its Blackwell architecture, priced between $6,500 and $8,000, compared to the H20 GPUs which go for up to $12,000 each. NVIDIA announced it faced a $4.5 billion charge in the first quarter because of licensing restrictions, and it couldn’t ship an additional $2.5 billion worth of H20 chips due to these rules. The company foresees an $8 billion revenue hit in Q2 because of this.
It’s a rollercoaster for these Chip giants, but they’re adapting quickly to keep up with AI demands despite restrictions. July will be an interesting month to see these new chips make their debut in China!
