Amazon is pouring over $4 billion into Chile to set up new AWS data centers, aiming to boost cloud services across Latin America. This huge investment will create three separate data zones, known as availability zones, in the upcoming infrastructure. Amazon also plans to hire local talent to keep everything running smoothly in Chile.

The company’s VP of infrastructure, Prasad Kalyanaraman, highlighted that this new South America region will cater to the increasing demand for cloud technology in the area. It will enable businesses to leverage cutting-edge AWS tools like AI and machine learning, fast-tracking innovation and growth.

Existing Amazon clients in Chile include LATAM Airlines, Agrosuper, and Andrés Bello University. Amazon isn’t new to the country; they launched AWS Outposts back in 2021, extending on-site AWS services locally. They’ve also introduced private connectivity options and low-latency zones to maximize efficiency.

In the broader scene, tech giants like Google and Microsoft have already stepped into Chile with their own cloud data centers, making the region a hot spot for cloud expansion. Amazon’s commitment signals a strong belief in Chile’s digital future, supporting the local tech ecosystem and offering a launchpad for regional growth.
