Skype users have only 10 weeks left to figure out their next steps. Recent reports show that Microsoft had more than 36 million

users in 2023, a stark contrast to its peak of 300 million users. Jeff Teper from Microsoft expressed gratitude for the support received from Skype’s users.

As Microsoft transitions its focus to Teams, Skype users can migrate their contacts and chat data over, or opt to download their data for future use. This move isn’t entirely surprising, given the rise of Teams since its launch in 2016.

In this transformative phase, Microsoft is also planning to phase out Skype for Business, reinforcing its strategy to streamline communication solutions.

During the transition, users will be able to access Teams and log in using their Skype credentials, ensuring a seamless migration of their data. Microsoft will retain user data until the year’s end for those who don’t take action by May 5.
