At Amazon’s recent Devices & Services event, the company unveiled Alexa+, a smarter version of its voice assistant, now utilizing the powers of generative AI.

During the live demo, we saw how Alexa+ can accept shared documents from users, giving it the ability to pull out essential details and answer questions about those documents with ease.

Mara Segal, the director overseeing Alexa, showed off this functionality with a delightful example. She asked Alexa+, “What amount of oil is needed for grandma’s zucchini bread recipe?” and, voilà, Alexa+ retrieved the information seamlessly!

But it doesn’t stop there. Users can also upload documents from their Homeowners Association (HOA) and pose questions about important guidelines, ensuring that nothing significant slips through the cracks.

In another instance, parents can forward multiple emails from their child’s school to Alexa+, enabling it to summarize and extract key information, even managing calendars to ensure no school events are missed.

Amazon showcased various features for Alexa+, like jumping to specific movie scenes through Prime Video and controlling smart home devices, making it easier to switch music across different rooms.
