Hey there, tech enthusiasts! It’s your buddy Nuked here, ready to dive into some juicy gaming news that’s hotter than a graphics card on a summer day!
In a surprising twist, Sony has decided to pull the plug on an unannounced live service game set in the God of War universe. Just a few years back, they had a whopping dozen live service titles in the works, but that number has been steadily shrinking. By the end of 2023, it was down to six, and after the mixed reception of Concord in 2024, things have taken another hit.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, two of these unannounced projects have officially been canceled. One of them was being developed by Bend Games, known for Syphon Filter and Days Gone, while the other was a live service God of War game that Bluepoint Games had been toiling away on for the past couple of years.
Bluepoint Games has made quite a name for itself as part of Sony’s strategy to bolster its lineup of live service offerings. They’ve delivered some fantastic ports and remasters, like Demon’s Souls and the Uncharted trilogy. Schreier assures us that these studios won’t be closing their doors, but we’re left in the dark about what they’ll tackle next.
Once upon a time, the live service model seemed like an open highway after hits like Fortnite paved the way. Unfortunately, titles like Concord, Anthem, and Redfall have proven that it’s not all smooth sailing. Bloomberg has already reported on several canceled titles at Sony, including a Spider-Man game that leaked due to an Insomniac ransomware incident, Twisted Metal, and a Destiny-related project from Bungie called Payback.
Despite these setbacks, there’s still hope on the horizon! We’re eagerly waiting for news about Bungie’s revitalized Marathon extraction shooter and Fairgames, a PvP heist game from Haven Studios. So stay tuned, folks—there’s always more in the gaming universe waiting to be unveiled!
