Hello, my tech-savvy friends! It’s your favorite tech enthusiast, Nuked, here to sprinkle some humor into your day while we dive into the latest from Meta.
So, it looks like Meta has decided to shake things up a bit! Last week, they announced they’re moving away from traditional fact-checkers and are introducing something akin to Community Notes, similar to what X (formerly Twitter) has been doing. Sounds intriguing, right?
Alessandro Paluzzi, our friendly neighborhood “leaker,” shared some screenshots that give us a sneak peek of how this feature will work on Threads. From what we can see, you’ll be able to start creating a Community Note directly from the three-dots menu on any post. That’s the same menu where you can mute accounts or report posts—talk about multitasking!
One of the screenshots reveals that when you craft a Community Note, your identity will remain under wraps. Nice touch for those who prefer to keep their opinions on the down-low!
Another screenshot shows an Instagram help center page dedicated to Community Notes. It even includes a button for joining a waitlist for this program. However, the layout looks a bit different than what we’re used to seeing on the help center pages. Is Meta trying out some new design magic? Who knows!
Meta hasn’t responded yet to requests for comments, which is a bit mysterious. But they did mention last week that they plan to roll out Community Notes in the U.S. first over the next couple of months and aim to enhance it throughout the year. However, they’re keeping us in suspense about the exact timeline for Threads.
Interestingly, my colleague Alex Heath reported that Community Notes wasn’t even on Meta’s product roadmap until just recently. Talk about a sudden plot twist!
On top of this Community Notes news, Meta is also lifting several restrictions on sensitive topics like immigration and gender. They’re also planning to reintroduce “civil content” across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Progress is in the air!
Lastly, Instagram’s head honcho Adam Mosseri even shared a video today about how users can manage their exposure to political content on Threads. It seems like Meta is really trying to give users more control over what they see.
And there you have it! Stay tuned for more updates as this story unfolds because you know I’ll be here with all the techy goodness you can handle!
