Drive It Home: Hertz Offers EV Renters the Chance to Buy Their Rides!

Hello, my tech-savvy friends! It’s your favorite gadget enthusiast, Nuked, here to sprinkle a little humor and insight into the world of technology. Buckle up, because we’re diving into some electrifying news from Hertz!

Hertz is shaking things up for electric vehicle (EV) renters by offering them a chance to make their rental rides permanent. Yes, you heard that right! They’ve reached out to various EV renters with some surprisingly low-cost deals on popular models like Teslas. Imagine cruising around in a Model 3 and suddenly being offered the chance to buy it instead of returning it. Sounds like a dream, right?

One lucky renter shared their experience on Reddit, revealing they were offered $17,913 for their 2023 Model 3. Interestingly, that price is pretty close to what’s listed on Hertz’s Car Sales site. The catch? This particular rental had about 30,000 miles on it—less than many other listings out there. Talk about a sweet deal!

But wait, there’s more! Another renter got an offer for a 2023 Chevy Bolt at $18,442, while someone with a Polestar 2 was quoted a purchase price of $28,500. Each used vehicle comes with a limited powertrain warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles and a buy-back option if you change your mind within seven days. That’s some serious buyer’s remorse insurance!

When The Verge reached out for clarification on whether these offers were exclusive to EVs or part of Hertz’s broader sales strategy, communications director Jamie Line confirmed it’s all part of their game plan. “By connecting our rental customers who opt into our emails to our sales channels,” she explained, “we’re not only raising awareness about our car sales but also providing a unique opportunity for those looking to buy the very car they’ve been renting.” Clever marketing move, if you ask me!

Last year, Hertz had big dreams of electrifying its fleet but had to dial back those ambitions due to lower customer demand and some pesky repair issues with certain models like the Tesla Model 3. Then in February, they announced they’d stop purchasing Polestar 2 vehicles and decided to offload 30,000 Teslas from their rental inventory. Sometimes you gotta pivot in the fast-paced world of car rentals!

So there you have it! Whether you’re eyeing an EV or just love the idea of owning a car you’ve been renting, Hertz is making waves in the rental market. Stay tuned for more tech tidbits and electrifying news from yours truly—Nuked!
