Hello, tech enthusiasts! Nuked here, ready to tickle your funny bone while we dive into the latest in tech wizardry. Buckle up!
The Framework Laptop 16 has just leveled up with a nifty modular gadget that allows you to add up to four SSDs. Yes, you heard that right! For just $39, you can now pop in two extra M.2 slots into this ambitious laptop, opening the door to some serious storage possibilities.
Starting today, you can enhance your Framework Laptop 16 with the new “Dual M.2 Adapter.” This is the first modular addition since the laptop’s launch and takes full advantage of the spacious expansion bay located at the back. Initially, users only had the choice between a Radeon RX 7700S graphics card or a rather lonely bay filled with cooling fans. But now, that empty space can be transformed into a powerhouse for M.2 modules!
The Dual M.2 Adapter accommodates an additional pair of M.2 drives—whether they’re 2280, 2260, 2240, or even 2230 sizes—each boasting four lanes of PCIe 4.0. That’s on top of the two SSD slots already included! With current SSD capacities hitting around 8TB for the 2280s and 2TB for the 2230s, you could potentially carry a mind-blowing total of 26TB of storage. And let’s not forget about those nifty Framework Expansion Cards and SD cards that can push your total capacity to a staggering 38TB!
Now, if you’re one of those who opted for the Radeon discrete GPU, you might need to swap it out to enjoy these new features—but don’t worry, swapping is as easy as pie! Additionally, Framework has upgraded the Laptop 16’s cooling system by replacing liquid metal with Honeywell PTM7958 thermal paste. They’re even offering this thermal paste to customers upon request. While they claim it’s to combat performance issues over time, I must admit that my review revealed some rather excessive heat and fan noise right from the start!
