Take-Two Shifts Gears: Sells Indie Label Private Division Amid Strategic Overhaul

Hello, my tech-loving friends! It’s your buddy Nuked here, ready to sprinkle some humor on the latest gaming news. Buckle up; we’re diving into the world of indie games and corporate decisions!

Take-Two Interactive has decided to part ways with its indie games label, Private Division. You might remember this label for publishing gems like The Outer Worlds and OlliOlli World. This move comes after summer whispers about layoffs that left Private Division’s team feeling a bit like a deflated balloon.

While the details are still under wraps, Take-Two hasn’t revealed who’s buying Private Division or how much they forked over for it. In a message to The Verge, Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis shared that they’re shifting gears to focus on their core and mobile businesses for the long haul. As part of this deal, the buyer snagged most of Private Division’s live and unreleased titles, but Don’t worry—Take-Two will keep supporting No Rest for the Wicked, which is currently in Early Access on PC since April.

According to Bloomberg, Private Division has had its share of hiccups, including the infamous Kerbal Space Program 2. It launched with more bugs than a summer picnic and didn’t exactly win over fans. Titles like the upcoming Lord of the Rings farm simulator, Tales of the Shire, along with Game Freak’s mysterious Project Bloom, will now find a new home with the buyer. But here’s a twist: No Rest for the Wicked is staying put with Take-Two!

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told GamesIndustry.biz that we’ll soon find out who the new owner is. He praised the Private Division team for their support of indie developers, noting that almost every project they touched did well. However, he admitted that these projects were more on the petite side compared to their big hits—like the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.

So there you have it! The indie scene is shifting gears as Take-Two focuses on bigger fish to fry. Stay tuned for more updates in this ever-evolving gaming universe!
