Game On: Microsoft’s New Emulator Expands Windows on Arm Gaming Horizons!

Hello, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s Nuked here, ready to dive into some exciting news from the world of Windows on Arm. Buckle up, because this update is sure to make your gaming experience smoother!

Microsoft is rolling out a significant update for Windows on Arm that aims to enhance the gaming landscape. The new emulator will allow more x64 software and games to run seamlessly under Prism emulation on Copilot Plus PCs equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus processors. This feature is part of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27744, which is currently being tested in the Canary Channel.

With this upgrade, Qualcomm’s latest chips will have the ability to support a wider range of applications that previously lacked native ARM64 versions. This means that games like Starfield and Helldivers 2, which utilize AVX2, could soon be playable on Windows on Arm devices!

Now, let’s talk technical! The new emulator will bring support for 64-bit x86 software, allowing access to processor extensions such as AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, and F16C. However, there’s a little catch: 32-bit software still won’t recognize this new emulator support, which means some programs might still face challenges.

While many popular applications like Photoshop, Hulu, and Chrome already have native ARM64 versions available for Windows, others still rely on emulation and may not function properly. Microsoft has mentioned that the new emulator is already being used “in limited use” on retail PCs. For instance, Premiere Pro 25 can now run on Arm after it was initially blocked—thanks to Adobe working on a native version!

Oh, and just a quick correction from a previous version of this article: Blender does not need emulation anymore as it now has its own ARM64 version available. So you can get back to creating those stunning graphics without any hiccups!

That’s all for now! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as Microsoft continues to enhance the gaming experience on Windows for Arm. Happy gaming!
