Meta has recently decided to put the brakes on sharing links to a certain JD Vance dossier across Threads, Instagram, and Facebook. This dossier, allegedly obtained through an Iranian hack of the Trump campaign, has been the center of attention for many users.

In a move that’s got everyone buzzing, Meta has reportedly yanked posts with the link and is blocking access to PDFs of the dossier hosted on other sites. Dave Arnold, a spokesperson for Meta, shared their stance with The Verge. He stated that their policies prohibit sharing content from hacked sources or anything leaked as part of foreign government operations aimed at swaying U.S. elections.

Meta’s guidelines on privacy violations clearly state that users cannot share information obtained through hacking or material that seems to unveil nonpublic election-related info from foreign influence operations. Users on Threads have noted that their posts containing the link were swiftly removed.

It appears that Meta is also disabling links to the document when it’s hosted elsewhere. For instance, some users have reported issues sharing links from Scribd or Google Drive. Instead, many are resorting to creative alternatives like linking to a Google search for Klippenstein’s Substack article or posting the link with random spaces and quirky QR codes!

Interestingly, while Meta is blocking direct links, they don’t seem to be stopping conversations about the dossier itself. In related news, X (formerly known as Twitter) is also restricting links to this story. Some users have found themselves unable to share the document through their Google Drive accounts—though I had some luck doing just that between my own accounts!

As of now, neither Meta nor X has responded to inquiries regarding this issue. We’ve also reached out to Box, Apple, Dropbox, and Microsoft about any restrictions on the document but haven’t heard back yet.
