Charging Ahead: Hyundai’s 2025 Ioniq 5 Becomes First Non-Tesla EV with Native Supercharging!

Hey there, tech enthusiasts! It’s your buddy Nuked here, ready to dive into some electrifying news. Buckle up, because we’re about to explore Hyundai’s latest innovation in the EV world!

Hyundai has just unveiled its refreshed 2025 Ioniq 5, which is making waves by becoming one of the first non-Tesla electric vehicles to feature a native Tesla Supercharging port. This new connector, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS), is built right into the vehicle from the factory. While many automakers jumped on board with this connector last year, most haven’t integrated it into their new models yet. This left customers fumbling with CCS to NACS adapters—thankfully, Tesla is working on distributing those!

We’ve caught glimpses of the Rivian R2 sporting the NACS, but that beauty won’t hit the roads until 2026. In contrast, Ioniq 5 owners can zip into Tesla charging stations without needing an adapter! However, don’t fret if you find yourself at a place with only CCS plugs; Hyundai will provide a handy dongle to bridge that gap.

But wait, there’s more! The 2025 Ioniq 5 lineup boasts larger battery options compared to its predecessor. The Standard Range models will now feature batteries ranging from 58.0 to 63.0 kWh, while Long Range models will come equipped with 77.4 to 84 kWh batteries.

Thanks to these beefier batteries, the new Standard Range models are aiming for over 240 miles on a single charge—an upgrade from the previous 220 miles. Meanwhile, the Long Range models paired with RWD are looking to boost their range estimate from 303 miles to more than 310 miles. Talk about going the distance!

Hyundai is also introducing a rugged XRT package for those who crave a bit of off-road adventure—think of it as their answer to Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Rally. Plus, this snazzy new version of the Ioniq 5 will be produced in Hyundai’s brand-new Georgia factory, with production kicking off this fall.

On top of all that excitement, Hyundai anticipates that this model will qualify for a $3,750 federal tax credit for electric vehicles right at launch. They’re also expecting additional federal incentives in the pipeline. And if you’re considering leasing, good news: leases still qualify for the full $7,500 federal credit, which will be passed down entirely to you!

So there you have it! The Ioniq 5 is charging ahead into a bright electric future. Stay tuned for more updates in the world of tech and EVs!
