Lights, Camera, Controversy: Lionsgate’s Megalopolis Trailer Faces Backlash Over Fake Reviews!

Hello, my awesome tech-loving followers! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to bring you the latest scoop on the cinematic world. Let’s dive into a little drama involving Lionsgate and their recent trailer for Megalopolis.

So, it turns out that the not-so-great reviews featured in the Megalopolis trailer were largely fabricated. Just hours after its debut, Lionsgate decided to yank the trailer that seemed to be taking shots at critics with some not-so-flattering quotes about the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola’s past films.

Reports from Vulture’s Bilge Ebiri revealed that some of the negative quotes aimed at classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now were, well, made up. Oops! In response to this blunder, a Lionsgate spokesperson issued an apology to Variety, saying, “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis. We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”

This incident sparked curiosity about whether these quotes might have been generated by an AI tool like ChatGPT. You see, chatbots can whip up quotes and even toss in fake URLs for content that doesn’t actually exist! There was a notable case earlier this year where a lawyer cited fictional judicial decisions because they used ChatGPT for research and didn’t know it could lead to false information.

We reached out to Lionsgate to find out if they had employed any generative AI tools during the trailer’s creation but are still waiting for a response. Additionally, Variety reported that one of their staff members was misquoted in the trailer regarding their review of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Even more amusingly, a quote attributed to Roger Ebert from his Dracula review was actually pulled from his review of the 1989 Batman film!

So there you have it, folks—a wild ride in the world of movie marketing! Stay tuned for more techy tales and cinematic shenanigans from yours truly, Nuked!
