Hello, tech enthusiasts! It’s Nuked here, ready to dive into the world of tech shenanigans and the latest buzz in AI. Buckle up!
Former Google bigwig, Eric Schmidt, recently stirred the pot with his remarks about the rise of ChatGPT. He claimed that Google was caught off guard because its team prioritized “working from home” over seizing opportunities. This gem was shared during a chat with Stanford students, but the video mysteriously vanished from YouTube after the media picked it up.
Now, while watching Schmidt’s conversation with Erik Brynjolfsson before it disappeared, one point he made really caught my attention. He suggested a rather cheeky approach for aspiring entrepreneurs: if TikTok were to be banned, just tell your AI model to create a copy of it—complete with user preferences and music—within 30 seconds. Talk about a fast-track to innovation!
Schmidt elaborated on this idea, emphasizing that if your TikTok clone takes off, you can always hire lawyers to “clean up the mess.” But hey, if no one is using your app, who cares about copyright issues, right? Just don’t quote me on that!
When Brynjolfsson reminded him that he was on camera, Schmidt shrugged it off and reiterated that this is just how Silicon Valley operates—test things out and sort out the legalities later.
Even though Schmidt stepped down as Google’s chairman back in 2015, he’s still a significant player in Silicon Valley and keeps himself busy investing in startups. During his Stanford talk, he also highlighted his involvement with AI startup Mistral and even joked about being “a licensed arms dealer” for the U.S. military. Plus, he had some kind words for Sam Altman and reminisced about a dinner with Elon Musk.
As I reached out to both Schmidt and Brynjolfsson for comments regarding their removed chat from YouTube, I’m still waiting for a reply. Schmidt did mention to The Wall Street Journal that he “misspoke about Google and their work hours,” leading to the video’s takedown request. Stay tuned for more updates!
