Tesla Takes Legal Action Against’Dangerous’ Breakaway Charging Adapter: A Shocking Escape?

Hello, my lovely tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite techie, Nuked, here to sprinkle some humor into your day while we dive into the electrifying world of EVs. Buckle up!

Tesla has thrown down the gauntlet, suing a company called EVject over their so-called “Escape Connector.” This MagSafe-style gadget is designed to help electric vehicle owners make a quick getaway from charging stations if they ever feel unsafe. However, Tesla isn’t too thrilled about it and claims the product is “highly unsafe,” potentially leading to serious injuries or damage.

In a recent lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California, Tesla is asking the court to prevent EVject from calling their product safe, halt its importation to the U.S. and demand at least $75,000 in damages. That’s quite a hefty price tag for a little escape plan!

Now, before you think you can just speed away from a charging station with this nifty gadget, hold your horses! You first need to tap your touchscreen to stop the charging session. Tesla conducted tests on the North American Charging Standard (NACS) version of this adapter and discovered that it could heat up to 100 degrees Celsius—yep, that’s boiling water territory—while fast-charging at 420 amps!

Interestingly enough, Tesla noted that EVject has already acknowledged that their adapter may overheat when charging a Cybertruck. EVject’s marketing paints a rather dramatic picture: imagine being attacked while charging your EV and having no way to escape without unplugging! Talk about high stakes.

EVject promotes this adapter as “fully compatible” with various Tesla models, which has Tesla raising an eyebrow. With Tesla operating the largest electric vehicle charging network globally, they worry that this Escape Connector could cause damage to their precious charging cables. EVject claims that the outer part of their adapter will protect the station plug when disconnected—sounds like a game of tech tug-of-war!

So there you have it! A charged-up legal battle brewing over safety and innovation in the world of electric vehicles. Stay tuned for more electrifying updates from your favorite techie!
