Get ready, because a brand new Doctor Who spinoff series is making its way to Disney Plus! That’s right, the Doctor Who universe is expanding, and this time it looks like we won’t be following our beloved Time Lord.

During the Doctor Who panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Disney and the BBC revealed an exciting project titled The War Between The Land And The Sea. This new series is penned by the talented duo Russell T. Davies and Pete McTighe.

Instead of focusing on the Doctor, this show will spotlight a group of humans banding together to battle the Sea Devils. These ancient, ocean-dwelling creatures first made waves in Doctor Who back in 1972!

Returning to the screen are Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient, reprising their roles as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Ibrahim. They’ll be joined by Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who will portray characters that have yet to be revealed. Fun fact: both actors previously appeared in Doctor Who—Tovey as Alonso Frame and Mbatha-Raw as Tish Jones—but we’ll have to wait to see who they’ll play this time around!

In an enthusiastic press release, Davies described the series as “a huge, muscular, thrilling drama which will shake The Whoniverse to its foundations.” Now that’s some high praise! While we’re not sure when it will premiere, filming is set to kick off in August.
