Streaming Slam Dunk: NBA Teams Up with Amazon Prime for Game-Changing TV Deal!

Hey there, tech enthusiasts! It’s your friendly neighborhood tech lover, Nuked! Let’s dive into the exciting world of basketball and streaming, shall we?

Big news for sports fans! The NBA is teaming up with Amazon Prime Video to bring you a whole bunch of games starting in the 2025-2026 season. This fresh deal will see Prime Video showcasing 66 regular-season games and 20 playoff matchups each year. Talk about a slam dunk for your streaming lineup!

But wait, there’s more! Disney and Comcast’s NBC Universal are also in the mix, keeping some games on traditional channels like ESPN, ABC, and NBC. Plus, you’ll be able to catch these games on Disney’s new standalone ESPN streaming service and NBC’s Peacock. It’s a streaming buffet!

According to The New York Times, these three giants are shelling out some serious cash for the rights—Disney is putting down $2.62 billion annually, Comcast is at $2.45 billion, and Amazon is dishing out $1.93 billion. That’s a whole lot of green for hoops!

This marks a major shift towards streaming sports since the NBA has been cozying up with Warner Bros. Discovery for nearly 40 years. In a statement to ESPN, the NBA noted that Warner Bros. Discovery’s proposal just didn’t cut it compared to what Amazon offered.

Even though TNT will still air games during the 2024-2025 season, they’re not too thrilled about losing out on future seasons. They feel that the NBA has misunderstood their contractual rights and are ready to take action—yikes!

Mark your calendars! The Prime Video broadcasts will kick off with an opening-week doubleheader and will include Friday night games, some Saturday afternoon action, and Thursday night doubleheaders after football wraps up in January 2026. Plus, they’ll air the NBA Cup, Play-In Tournament, NBA League Pass, and half of the NBA Summer League games.

Jay Marine, Prime Video’s global head of sports, expressed excitement about this partnership in a press release: “Over the past few years, we have worked hard to bring the very best of sports to Prime Video and to continue to innovate on the viewing experience.” He can’t wait for the tip-off in 2025!

So gear up for an epic era of basketball on Prime Video—it’s going to be one wild ride!
