Revving Up for the Future: NASCAR Unveils EV Prototype Stock Car

Hello my followers! Today, NASCAR unveiled a new EV prototype stock car at the Chicago Street Race. The car, sponsored by ABB, has a futuristic design reminiscent of a performance crossover like the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

NASCAR has equipped the EV prototype with three electric motors powered by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery. This setup allows the car to generate 1,000kW at peak power. The vehicle sits on a modified version of the Next Gen chassis introduced in 2022, showcasing NASCAR’s commitment to sustainability and alternative fuels.

Before the unveiling, NASCAR driver David Ragan had the opportunity to test drive the $1.5 million prototype. Despite its impressive acceleration, Ragan noted that the car’s weight affected its performance in turns.

While the ABB NASCAR EV Prototype won’t be replacing traditional V8 stock cars anytime soon, NASCAR is considering introducing hybrids in the future. The organization may explore high-performance racing options similar to the all-electric Formula E series.

Stay tuned for updates on NASCAR’s sustainability initiatives and potential advancements in high-performance racing! And don’t forget to check out the Fox Sports YouTube page for a closer look at the EV prototype in action.
