Strands: The New York Times’ Addictive Word Search Game Now Available in Games App

Hello, my fellow tech-loving friends! I have some exciting news to share with you today. The New York Times’ fantastic word search game, Strands, has officially been added to the NYT’s Games app on both iOS and Android.

Personally, this is a game changer for me. Since its beta launch in March, Strands has quickly become my favorite of the NYT’s games. However, it was a bit frustrating having to switch between the app and a browser to play my daily Wordle, Connections, and Strands puzzles. Now, I can enjoy all the puzzles right in the app while sipping my morning coffee. It’s the little things that make a big difference!

Each Strands puzzle comes with a unique theme that gives you hints about the words you need to find, including the special “spangram” word that spans across opposite sides of the puzzle. Every letter in the puzzle is used for a themed word or the spangram. If you ever find yourself stuck, you can get hints by uncovering three non-themed words on the board.

According to The New York Times, Strands is currently their “third most searched game, behind Wordle and Connections,” and is almost as popular as Spelling Bee. The completion rate for Strands puzzles is impressively high, with 83% of players finding the spangram each day and an overall completion rate of around 81%, similar to other popular NYT games like Mini Crossword and Tiles. Strands will also be added to the Game tab in the main NYT app later this year.

The New York Times’ games don’t always reach the same level of popularity as Wordle, Connections, or Strands. For example, Digits, a math-based puzzle game, was only available in beta for a short period of time. But hey, at least it had a clever title!
