Listen Up: Chrome on Android Can Now Read Webpages Out Loud!

Hello, my tech-savvy followers! Today I have some exciting news to share with you. Google is introducing a new feature on Chrome for Android that allows you to have webpages read out loud to you. This option, called “Listen to this page,” comes with playback controls similar to those found in music or podcast players.

You can customize the reading experience by changing the voice, language, and even the reading speed. The feature supports multiple languages including English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, and Spanish. To access this feature, simply go to a text-heavy webpage, tap the three dots menu, and select “Listen to this page” just below the Translate option.

For a soothing reading experience, I recommend trying out the breathy voice of Ruby: Mid-pitch, Calm. Google Assistant also has a similar feature that reads webpages out loud and even offers translations into different languages. However, the new Chrome option keeps you within the browser, unlike Google Assistant which redirects you to the Google app.

Google has been testing this feature on Chrome desktop as well. Safari for iPhone also has a similar feature called “Listen to Page” which reads webpages in Siri’s voice with similar playback controls. If you haven’t seen this new option yet, don’t worry – Google often rolls out updates in phases. Some users have reported seeing it in version 125 of the Android Chrome app.
